A playlist for the long way home

Some bands write songs.
Others build weather.

Marcoca do the second thing.

Five musicians in Berlin, five very different record collections, and no real interest in resolving the differences. Psychedelia with the reverb left in. Funk that walks rather than runs. Surf, jazz, soul — the warmth of the sixties and seventies, heard from somewhere much closer to now.

Three albums so far — Silent Struggles (2020), Cosmic Blunder (2022) and Homage to Delusion (2024) — plus the Soliloquy EP this spring. In November they release the next one, Meteo Mirage.

But none of that is what brought us to them.

It was the light in the sound.

That golden quality of songs that aren't trying to get anywhere.

When we think about a collaboration for Sol Calypso, we're not looking for reach.
We're looking for temperature.

Someone who understands groove, warmth, the pleasure of the long way round.
Who knows a song doesn't have to arrive anywhere to be worth the drive.

Marcoca have known that for four records now.

The playlist they've made for us comes from that same place.

It isn't a list of favourite songs.
It's a drive.

Windows down, nobody checking the time.
The light going orange and staying there.
Something you're wearing that already feels like yours.
